“Maybe the journey isn't so much about becoming anything. Maybe it's about un-becoming everything that isn't really you so you can be who you were meant to be in the first place.”
-From The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho
Sun Mountain Counseling
Hi, I’m Mallory! I’m a licensed professional counselor.
Most folks find that our work together is very different from traditional talk therapy—Together, we lean into the body, the breath, imagination, and the nervous system to truly understand what’s going on beneath the surface of your symptoms.
As a neurodiverse person with ADHD, I understand what it feels like to live in a world not designed for “alternative” ways of thinking, sensing, or moving through life. My approach honors the beauty and complexity of neurodiversity, and I show up with the presence and flexibility needed for uniquely wired minds and bodies.
I don’t pretend to have any answers as I believe they already live within each of us. My role is to walk beside you with curiosity and respect as you reconnect to and learn to trust your Self. I also believe the planet is in crisis, and that connecting to your Self through therapy is not only personal healing—it’s ecological service.
I embody a compassionate, intuitive presence where all of your parts feel welcome. Together, we follow the threads of your inner world to untangle old survival patterns, reconnect with your aliveness, and remember who you’ve always been beneath the layers.
Services
Intensive Sessions
Intensive sessions last between 2.5 and 5 hours and are designed to support a concentrated and extended exploration into the depths of an individual’s inner landscape. Intensives are a great option for folks with irregular schedules or for those who find themselves wishing for more time at the end of individual sessions. During an intensive I offer the same guidance I would in a regular session, and with the extra time I intuitively weave in options for guided movement, breathwork, oracle cards and trauma informed touch*. Additionally, intensive sessions can be done outside, weather permitting, where we can learn from and connect with the wise flora and fauna.
These sessions include time for bathroom breaks, snacks, rest, and moments to simply pause and settle.
*Touch is ALWAYS optional and consent to be touched can ALWAYS be revoked at any point in time.
Individual Sessions
I believe the most sustainable recovery from trauma, anxiety, and depression comes from integrating the full human experience—mind, body, and spirit. Current neurological research indicates that the majority of information flowing through the nervous system travels from the body to the brain. With this understanding, I support you in tuning into the inherent wisdom of your unique experience to learn from your nervous system and your subsequent ways of existing in the world in order to shift how you relate to yourself emotionally, relationally, physically, and spiritually.
Our work together draws from the evidence-based modalities of Internal Family Systems (IFS), and EMDR, while also embracing creativity, mindfulness, and nature-based awareness. Sessions are generally 55 minutes, and there is no formula for how many sessions someone will need—every person’s nervous system moves at its own pace. We move intentionally and collaboratively, prioritizing regulation and integration so that you can leave sessions feeling grounded and supported.
I acknowledge that the psychotherapeutic work I do takes place on land stolen from the Núuchiu (Ute) people. This land is also the ancestral home of or served as a site of trade, gathering, or healing for Apache, Pueblo, Diné, and other nations who were forcibly removed. I recognize and honor these peoples and nations as traditional stewards of this land and water. May my work only endeavor to respect their enduring relationship with it.
